Working draft. Every item shown as [LIKE THIS] must be filled in before launch. This draft is not legal advice, and a qualified lawyer should review the final text before it is published.
This Privacy Policy explains what information UmmulQuraan AI collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. UmmulQuraan AI (the “app”) helps people learn to read the Qur'an with real-time recitation feedback powered by our own AI. We are committed to collecting as little as possible and protecting what we hold.
The app is operated by [OPERATOR NAME] (“we”, “us”, “our”), based in [COUNTRY]. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
About this beta
UmmulQuraan AI is currently offered as a beta (a preview version) so we can test and improve it. It is open to anyone who wishes to try it. Features may change, and the app may occasionally behave unexpectedly. This Policy applies to the beta and to later versions unless we replace it.
Accounts & children
An account may only be created by an adult (aged 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live). When you create an account you confirm that you are that adult.
Children are warmly welcome to learn with the app — but always under the account and supervision of a parent or guardian. The adult who owns the account is responsible for the child's use, gives any consent required on the child's behalf, and controls the account's settings. We do not offer separate accounts to children, and children should not create accounts on their own.
Information we collect
Voice recordings
When you (or a child under your supervision) practice reciting, the app records your voice and sends it to our servers so our AI can analyze the recitation and give feedback. Voice recordings are the most sensitive information we handle, and we treat them accordingly. In some regions, voice data may be considered biometric or sensitive personal data.
Account information
To create and maintain your account we collect your email address and any name or profile details you choose to provide.
Device & technical information
We automatically collect basic technical information such as device type and operating system, app version, language settings, a device identifier, and error or crash logs. This helps us keep the app working.
Usage information
We collect information about how the app is used — for example lessons opened, progress, and features used — so we can understand what helps people learn and improve the app.
Voice recordings & our AI
This section explains exactly what happens to your voice, because it matters most.
What we do with recordings
- To give you feedback. We process each recording to detect pronunciation, vowel-mark, and tajweed points, and to show you corrections. This is the core purpose of the app.
- To improve our AI — only if you allow it. Using your recordings to train and improve our AI is optional. It is controlled by a setting you can turn on or off at any time in the app. If you leave it off, your recordings are used only to give you feedback, not to train our AI.
How long recordings are kept
We keep recordings only as long as needed for the purposes above. After that we delete them or remove information that identifies you so they can no longer be linked back to you. You can request deletion at any time (see Your rights).
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- create and maintain your account;
- provide recitation feedback and track learning progress;
- keep the app secure, detect problems, and fix errors;
- understand and improve how the app works;
- improve our AI, where you have turned that setting on;
- send you important service messages, and — only with your consent — occasional updates you can unsubscribe from;
- meet legal obligations.
We do not use AI to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Children's privacy
We care deeply about protecting children. Because accounts belong to adults, a parent or guardian is always the person who agrees to this Policy and provides any consent for a child's use.
- We ask parents not to let a child use the app without supervision and their agreement.
- For a child's use, advertising and advertising-related tracking are switched off (see Advertising & analytics).
- A parent or guardian may review, export, or request deletion of information relating to their child at any time by contacting us.
If you believe a child has used the app without a parent's or guardian's involvement, please contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will address it promptly, including deleting information where appropriate.
Advertising & analytics
To keep part of the app free in the future, we may show advertising. Our commitments:
- Never during recitation.We do not show ads while you are reading or reciting the Qur'an.
- Never to children.We do not show ads, and do not use advertising trackers, in a child's use of the app.
We use analytics tools — currently [e.g. Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook] — to understand general usage and improve the app. We do not apply advertising or ad-targeting trackers to children. We do not sell your personal information.
Note for launch: confirm the exact analytics and advertising providers here before launch, and list them by name.
Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here, to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Voice recordings follow the shorter approach described in Voice recordings & our AI. You may ask us to delete your information at any time, subject to limited legal exceptions.
Storage & international transfers
Your information, including voice recordings, is stored on servers located in [SERVER LOCATION / COUNTRY]. Because the app is available worldwide, your information may be processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for such transfers.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures — such as encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure — to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or loss. Please help by keeping your password private and signing out on shared devices. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your information (the “right to be forgotten”);
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- receive a copy of your information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time — including turning off AI-improvement, or unsubscribing from updates.
To exercise any of these, contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL]. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Note for launch: confirm which regimes apply (e.g. GDPR for the EU/UK, CCPA/CPRA for California) and align this section and the legal bases with a lawyer.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, give notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
